“Symbols of Freedom and Happiness”

Most of the inspiration for this mural comes from the children of the summer camp at The Fine Feather Foundation. I decided to work toward expressing their creativity into a piece of art. The background of the mural represents the patterns and symmetries we find in nature. Our natives from all the Americas have created beautiful shapes. In one of our workshops the children and I created a few different patterns and shapes to imitate the art of our ancestors and predecessors. The background of the design holds patterns in the colors of blue and orange to create a sense of the coming dusk. Nature has lots to offer to create happiness. We had a class at Camp Fowler in Orefield where children were able to see and experience nature first hand. Our topic for when we were there was creating birds in modeling clay. For the design I chose to portray the Blue Jay. This bird is a symbol of freedom of the mind and body. While we were at this camp, near nature, I sensed a feeling of tranquility and happiness amongst the children. They observed nature and some of them remembered  having seen certain birds around the area. We learned a lot about birds.
